November- Family Violence Prevention Month

October 28, 2017

November is Family Violence Prevention Month

Grande Prairie, Alberta: November is Family Violence Prevention Month in Alberta. Looking around Grande Prairie you may see purple ribbons on trees, light posts, or on people’s jackets. Wearing purple is a sign of solidarity that we can all work together to prevent family violence. It takes all of us working together to promote healthy relationships and create safe communities.

In Grande Prairie, the RCMP and many agencies are working towards ending family violence in our community and surrounding areas through the Prevention of Family Violence Network. The Prevention of Family Violence Network is a multi-disciplinary team committed to preventing family violence. They support fellow agencies and help build community confidence that violence is preventable through collaborative effort, education and increased public awareness. The Network believes that Albertans deserve to live in a City where everyone feels safe, but we know we cannot do this alone.

The Prevention of Family Violence Network invites the public to several events taking place November.

Please join Mayor Bill Given and Reeve Leanne Beaupre at the Eastlink Centre on November 1st at 11:30 a.m., to celebrate the official proclamation declaring November as Family Violence Prevention Month.
