Don’t Let a Grinch Spoil Your Christmas

The holidays bring much cheer and goodwill. But unfortunately, some people see it as an opportunity for crime. The Grande Prairie RCMP would like remind everyone to be extra attentive this holiday season and consider the following crime prevention tips:

  • When out shopping be sure to safeguard your personal belongings. This includes credit cards, wallets, purses, and any purchases you have made.
  • Be cautious of any personal information that you may share during retail transactions. Some cashiers may ask for your name, phone number, and even driver’s license, but keep in mind the more information you share, the more susceptible you are to fraud.
  • Remember to always lock your vehicles and park in well-lit areas.
  • During the colder days do not be tempted to warm-up your vehicle by leaving it running and unattended with the keys in the ignition.
  • While it is better if you do not leave valuables in your vehicle, if you have to be sure to keep items out of view.
  • If you are going away for an extended period of time, let someone you trust know so they can check on your property in your absence.

Be cognizant of what’s going on around you and report suspicious activity by calling the Grande Prairie RCMP complaint line at (780) 830-5700, or if you want to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1.800.222.8477 (TIPS).
