Beaverlodge RCMP respond to Explosion at a Residence

Beaverlodge, Alberta: Beaverlodge RCMP are investigating an explosion that occurred earlier this afternoon at a residence in Beaverlodge.

At approximately 2:00 pm today Beaverlodge RCMP, along with other emergency services responded to an explosion that took place at a residence in Beaverlodge.

Upon arriving at the scene the responding officers observed that a detached garage behind the residence had been completely destroyed. Police learned that a male had been in the garage at the time of the explosion and had already been taken to hospital by family members. The male suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The area was secured and as a precaution two nearby schools were placed into a hold and secure for approximately half an hour. Atco Gas and Electric disconnected gas and power to the residence. The Beaverlodge Fire Department examined the area and cleared it from any further danger. The fire Department remain on scene awaiting the fire investigator.

At this time police are not able to confirm the cause of the explosion.
