Westpointe Barricaded Armed Man

Grande Prairie RCMP respond to armed and barricaded situation-UPDATE

Grande Prairie, Alberta – On November 2 2017, at approximately 3:30 PM, Grande Prairie RCMP responded to a call of a man who was possibly armed and barricaded in his residence in the Westpointe neighbourhood resulting with Isabelle Campbell School and Stepping Stones Daycare being placed in hold and secure as a safety precaution.

The scene was contained by Grande Prairie RCMP general duty officers, Police Dog Services (PDS) and emergency services personnel. At approximately 6:10 PM the male was taken into police custody without any further incident. Criminal Code charges are pending.

The male’s identity will not be revealed at this time. Police continue their investigation into this matter.

RCMP thank the public for their patience during this morning’s events and would like to advise it is now safe to resume daily activities.

Grande Prairie RCMP at unfolding event in Westpointe Neighbourhood

 

Grande Prairie, Alberta:  Grande Prairie RCMP are currently on scene at an unfolding event on 73 Avenue in the Westpointe neighbourhood, and are advising the public to avoid the area until further notice.

 

While the public is not believed to be in danger, RCMP are currently asking residents in the area to stay in their homes or stay away from the area. Ecole Nouvelle Frontiere,  Isabelle Campbell and Stepping Stones Daycare have been placed in hold and secure as a safety precaution, but the incident is not related to the schools or its students.

 

The RCMP can confirm that there is a lone male possibly armed and barricaded in a residence in the Westpointe neighbourhood.

 

Traffic is currently being re-routed in the area.

 

RCMP will issue an update when more information is available, and thank the public for their cooperation.
